About Il Solitario
We are a small, independent maker of free browser solitaire games. There are no accounts, no sign-up and nothing to buy, and this policy covers this site.
What we collect
No account, no sign-up, no contact details: we never ask who you are, and nothing you do here is tied to a person. What we collect is aggregate usage — which pages are opened, which games are played, how long a visit lasts — plus the technical detail needed to fix faults. We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and we run no advertising and no profiling of any kind.
Analytics (PostHog)
Only if you allow Statistics. We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, with every request routed through our own /nomnom reverse proxy on this domain. It runs without cookies: PostHog keeps its state in memory for the life of the page, so nothing is written to your browser and no profile of you is built across pages or visits. We also collect Core Web Vitals — page speed and layout-stability measurements — so we can tell when the site gets slower; we do not collect network request timings, which would carry the URLs you visit. To be plain about one thing: the analytics proxy forwards your real IP address to PostHog.
Session replay
This site records no sessions. Session replay is switched off here, and the component that would do the recording is never even downloaded — so there is no recording of the card table, of your clicks, or of anything else on your screen.
Error monitoring (Sentry)
We use Sentry to record technical errors and degraded features so we can fix them. Only the error message, a stack trace and the page path are sent. File paths, query strings, email addresses, IP addresses and your browser's language, calendar and time-zone settings are stripped in your browser before the report leaves it. No browsing trail is attached, and no session or profile is built.
Fathom Analytics
Only if you allow Statistics. We use Fathom Analytics to count visits in aggregate. Fathom is cookieless, stores nothing on your device and builds no profile of anyone. It also honours your browser's "Do Not Track" setting: if you have that switched on, Fathom records nothing at all.
Cookies and device storage
One cookie, and only one: solitaire_consent records the answer you gave in the cookie dialog — a version number, your two yes/no answers and the date. It identifies nobody, it is read only by this site, and it expires after 180 days, at which point we ask again. The analytics themselves are cookieless whether you allow them or not: PostHog keeps its state in memory for the life of the page, Fathom sets nothing, and the analytics proxy strips cookie headers in both directions. Your browser also keeps a few things locally that never reach our servers: your game settings, in local storage under solitaire-settings; your games in progress, in session storage under solitaire-multi-game-state, which belong to the tab you are playing in and are cleared when you close it; if you are offered this site in another language and answer, that answer, in local storage under gfg-lang-pref; and, only if you allow statistics and then withdraw, the blockFathomTracking flag that stops Fathom counting, in local storage — that one stays until you clear it or allow statistics again. Clearing your browsing data resets all of it, and the dialog returns.
